Colossians 4:7 Tychicus, a beloved brother, faithful minister, and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news about me.
Paul was talking about his personnel secretary, a scribe for Paul, his ministry is delivering letter from Paul to churches…
Paul, was an apostle, established churches, more than that a great theologian ever lived…
Tychicus a beloved brother: He is close to my heart, I know him very well, and he is available for God and me
Faithful minister: Which means, servant… he is so faithful in serving God and human
Fellow servant: There is no different between me and him….we both are same, Servants of God
Acts 6:1-5 Faithfulness over few things
Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.
Hellenists: Jews widows who used Greek as their language
Peter said it is not desirable to leave the word of God and serve the table because.. He is well aware of the will of God upon his life. Each of us has our own calling.
Jesus called one man
He said to another, “Follow Me” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.”Here same like Peter, Jesus called someone to preach the kingdom of God, Jesus call him voluntarily….He said: my father died, let me go and bury my father, and then I will come and join you…
Jesus said: dead can bury the dead…which means anyone can do the worldly works. But to preach the kingdom of God, we need calling…
Others can bury his father, but others cannot preach the word of God.
There was a calling upon his life to preach gospel, he cannot substitute his calling with someone else….
Peter knows his calling:
Peter knows his calling, he said let us find someone to do this business….for daily distribution…They found 7 people…two of them are 1. Stephen 2. Philip
They worked in the kitchen…they mainly concentrated on taking care of daily distributions….God blessed them
Stephen was used by God in such a mighty manner …he prepared the heart of Saul by his testimony and word of God
Jesus sow the seed of salvation…
Preach the Gospel in Samaria, lots of signs and wonders happened by his hand…God was with him…
What is secret behind all these things? Faithfulness in their ministry.
Jesus and his faithful servant:
His Lord said to him, ?Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’
Joy: Jesus endured the cross because he knew the joy which was set before him “we are his joy”
Good and faithful servant:
Jesus did not say; well done good pastor, theologian, prophet…he said “faithful servant”
1.Be faithful, may be you are called to work in the church administration, handling finance , child care , in the kitchen or pray for others, be faithful in your service.
So God will open many ways to serve his people that is the Lords joy..Serving people….in his name…
2. Your position in heaven determined by your faithfulness on the earth
3.You cannot be faithful to man unless you are faithful to god…
It is the collection of data. We can see lots of believers who have lots of knowledge from the bible, If you have lots of knowledge from the bible and if you do not walk as per the word your heart will be hardened.
1 Cor 8:1 Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up…Love is character, You need deep knowledge from the bible, applying that knowledge in our life is so important.
Wisdom is applying the knowledge you have from the bible:
Jesus talk to his Disciple ,the value system of his kingdom (matthew:5,6,7, Sermon on the mountain ) He sums up whole message in to an analogy..
That is building a home on a Rock and On Sand; We cans see here a wise man and a foolish man
Mathew 7: 24
Therefore whoever heard these saying of mine, and does them will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock
If you are a believer, you will not panic when wind blows, flood comes, rain descends …. Because you are completely controlled by God, you build your house on Jesus. You don’t want to ask to God …God strengthens me because God is your strength…you don’t want to ask for the protection God is your protection.
Who hears the word of God; neither applies it nor walks as per the word, He will not be able to stand in the judgment.
1 Peter 1:1
The First Epistle of PETER written by Peter an Apostle of Christ. Theme is suffering; Suffering in the will of god
His Birth name is Simon, Father’s Name is John…Jesus called him Simon Bar Jonah …Simon son of John
Name Simon- meaning
“One who heard”, He heard everything but did not listen, hearing is done by ears but listening is done by Heart.
His home town was Bethsaida on the lake side of Galilee.
Later he moved to Capernaum because Jesus’s ministries head office was in Capernaum
Jesus Changed his name:
He called him Peter …Rock…Rocky…In Hebrew Cephas
He was so human
Simon was so human like us, Lots of flaws and imperfection he had in his life…so we can easily relate to him.
Jesus said: I am going to die, son of man will suffered and die by gentile..
Simon said, it will not happened, if all these may fall away, I will not, I am ready to die with you…
Craving for position
Disciple where arguing, who is greater among us, who is the leader among us….
Jesus said: Simon, Simon, Satan ask me permission to chaff you like grain, I pray for my God behalf of you, you may lose your faith.
SIMON BECAME PETER
A man like water became like ROCK,Faded Hope became Living Hope
Simon left everything and followed Christ, expecting Jesus will knock out pilot and Romans from ruling Israel and we 12 disciples will sit with Jesus and rule the land.
With great expectation they entered with Jesus into Jerusalem, but everything changed, they caught Jesus and crucified him, and Jesus cried out on the cross and died.
Simon had such a great hope in Jesus before his crucifixion. Without fulfilling any promises he died. He thought Jesus failed. His hope became a faded hope. After resurrection Peter had an encounter with Jesus, that changed him completely
1 peter 1:3
Peter wrote, we have a living hope. When Jesus died all his hope was lost. When Jesus resurrected from the death as he said, that gave him confidence that whatever Jesus said before his death and after his death will be fulfilled
Simon Became Peter.
Peter when you are young , gridded yourself( you clothed your dress yourself) and walked yourself…but when you old…..other will gridded you and you stretched out your hand and carried you where you not wish to go
Jesus was talking about his death.
1. You will die when you are old….
2. Stretch out your hand…. You will die by crucifixion
Now Peter is in the jail, 4 squad of soldier are guarding him…he was bounded with chains… Herod killed James by sword and the very next day they plan to kill peter ….but peter was sleeping in the Jail…
When Jesus was sleeping on the boat, there was wind and storm …peter was so frightened and cried out Jesus, don’t you bother, we are going to perish…
Now in the jail even though he knows that Herod had a plan to kill him by sword, he is sleeping.
Reason for His Peace: Peter believed in God’s Promises
1. Jesus said you will die in your older age
2. Jesus said, you will glorify God by death, on the cross
After resurrection Jesus appeared to peter and asked
Simon (old nature), Simon (old nature), Do you love me? then Peter said Yes Lord I loves You
Jesus repeated the same question three times and said; Feed My Sheep, Tent My Sheep, Feed My Sheep.
Jesus giving the authority over his sheep to a failed person
Only one condition: “Love Jesus”
Jesus came to the earth and suffered, died and Rose up for his church, His church is so precious to Him.
Jesus asking me and you: do you love me?
Do you love Jesus…he is asking to me and you, do you really loves him..
Jesus said: if you love me, you will obey my words….
There are flaws, and imperfections in our lifes, Jesus is not looking for a perfect person; but He asks do you love me? If you say yes Lord, You must live as per his word,
Then you are a man who builds his house on the rock like Peter.
